MANAGEMENT POLICY OF PAI LECTURER:
CASE STUDY AT THE CAMPUS OF UGM YOGYAKARTA

This article presents the results of research in 2015 regarding the policy implementation for Islamic education teachers in higher education. This research took the case of Gajah Mada University (UGM) Yogyakarta. Data and information were obtained through qualitative research, through interviews with lecturers of Islamic Religious Education (PAI), experts and related officials and analysis of PAI lecturer management policy at UGM. The findings of this research point out some issues of PAI lecturers management, for example: the big task load for the lecturers, lack number of lecturers, lack of creativity and innovation, and lack of incentives. From these findings, it is suggested that some aspects need to be taken into accounts: the rationale of the lecturer’s duties need to be revisited, the recruitment for new lecturers, the development of lecturers’ career and competence, to improvement the creativity and innovation for lecturers through the training program, and the increase of lecturers’ incentives through budgeting.
